Voluta

2012-2014

I’ve always considered the series Quasi Res in relation to the Hyperrealism genre. A sort of paradoxical relationship: while that was an extreme realism interested in the world as something perceived through a mechanical device, the camera, in my case it is no more the world as manifestation but as a translation into numbers. The work retains elements of “formal accuracy” but at the same time it appropriates strong abstract characteristics becoming a place of ambiguity.
In this perspective, the series Voluta is an approach to photography, but the only subject chosen is something particularly ephemeral and evanescent, small wisps of smoke that recursively arrange themselves into space and disappear.
